A healthy life is something that many take for granted. Amy on the other hand is simply grateful to be here today.
Raised with an athletic lifestyle, softball, swimming, and crew at Wichita State were big foundations in her life. Growing up, Amy never really had many health issues. After getting married, the fall of October 2002 was when her health and her lifestyle changed forever. Over the next 18 years, Amy fought through battle after battle, always trying to stay ahead of her sicknesses and health. It wasn't until her fifth child was born that Amy realized she needed to change her lifestyle for the better. With the simple yet AMAZING mindset of "I need to get healthier", Amy sought out a coach that could change her life. After finding a gym and meeting her coach, in Amy's words, "the rest is history". Years of hard work and dedication not only drastically increased Amy's health, but slowly turned running into more than a lifestyle, a true passion. Her wise words about health, lifestyle, and mindset is enough to encourage anyone to get out and change for the better. In her words, "It takes a lot of courage to look at your life, see where you're at, and do something about it".

"I gotta finish this race... I gotta finish this race"
With 2 hours still to go in the USATF 50K National Championship, this phrase came drifting into Preston Johnson's mind. With amazing grit, Preston did just that. And not only did Preston finish, but he earned himself the title of 50k National Champion along with a guaranteed spot on the USA Team in the 50k World Championships. Preston is not unfamiliar with the idea of running through trials, injury, and disappointment. In college, he faced many injuries, and eventually fought through surgery. Preston took these trials and developed a running theory that pushed him to be ELITE. On this bonus episode of Running Unbroken, Preston shares with us the UNREAL experience of racing and winning the USATF 50K National Championship. Davy Crockett is an ultra runner who began his running journey about 15 years ago. After reaching his mid 40s, he thought his fitness was 'over'. Davy decided that was simply not true.
Now, after completing 105 100-mile races, Davy is one of the wisest ultra runners we have ever had the opportunity to interview! After signing on with Weber State, Taylor suffered a stress fracture her freshman year. Getting past that injury, she was virtually injury free. Later in her college career, Taylor discovered her love for longer races. "The 10k was too short" Graduation led to pro marathons, the OLYMPIC TRIALS, and amazing competition. All was going great until Taylor suffered an injury in her hip that forced her into surgery. Taylor shares with us her journey through injury, surgery, and recovery! An amazing mindset has led Taylor in a strong recovery, and allowed for growth along the way. Everyone has mountains to climb. For Bart, EVEREST was his to tackle.
Bart always had a passion for climbing, but Mount Everest always seemed like a far off dream, never a reality. It wasn't until he noticed others gunning for their dreams that he decided to make his move. He realized that his dreams could be made a reality. In this episode of Running Unbroken, Laurie shares how she found her grit through months of cross training and injury. With a fractured femur and another season of track gone, Laurie had to find her 'why'.
With the amazing support of her team, coaches, and self determination, she was able to gain a level of grit that couldn't be found any other way. While balancing life, school, and family, Jordan was able to find a passion for running.
That all changed when he shattered his leg. Jordan's "prove it on the path" mentality is relatable, entertaining, and INSPIRING. Riley Cook is an amazing runner who knows from first-hand experience how difficult running can be. His first bunch of marathons did not go as planned, and even in the middle of pure misery, he always said "I gotta do another marathon".
His enthusiasm is contagious!! (Especially in the second half so listen all the way through!) Amy started out early playing a lot off different sports. She describes how "something woke up in me". She learned to love the amazing world of running.
